BACKWOODSMAN'S WHISKY.

NEVER HEARD OF PROHIBITION

John Bchexnayder, an 82-year-old backwoodsman. lately told the Judge in the United States District Court at Baton Rouge, Louisiana, that he had been making whisky for 50 years and had never heard of the prohibition laws. Schexnayder, who was barefooted, and speaks only French, pleaded guilty through nn interpreter to a charge of manufacturing intoxicating liquor. The Judge placed him on probation for five years. Among other things, the backwoodsman said he had not been told that the American Civil War had ended, though it finished in 1865.
