MANUKAU AMATEUR CLUB.
DWIGHT BEST OF SPRINTERS.
The Manukau Amateur Cycling Club recommenced its weekly training handicap races at the Western Springs Stadium last evening, when a mile handicap was decided for both junior and senior riders and a eerics of match races was conducted. Fair times were recorded, and in winning the mile senior final R. G. Foubister almost equalled his record of '2m '2 4-ss. Last season's sprint champion, H. R. Dwight, did not appear to have much trouble in accounting for both his heat and the final of tlio eorint matches. Seventeen competed in the junior event, the result of which was as follows: —Fir6t heat: L. Oxton, 65yds. 1; G. A. Thompson, 60yds. 2; I. C. Bellini. 120yda, 3; H. V. Gordon. 6cr, 4. Time, 2m'B 3-ss. Won by A length separated, the other finishers. Second heat: S. Pinfold, 85yds, 1. S.'J. -Webster. 100 yds. 2; D. K. Gough. '2oyds, 3; S. •F. Budge. 65yds, 4. Time, 2m 123. In a bunched finish Pmfold led by half a wheel. Final: D. K. Gough. 20yd8.'l; S. Pinfold. 85yde, 2; H. V. Gordon. scr, 3; S. F. Budge, 65yds, 4. Time. 2m 12 3-ss. With a well-timed effort Gough shot over the line inches ahead of Pinfold, with Gordon right alongside Pinfold. The senior race attracted an entry of 16. The race resulted as' follows:—1-iret heat: R. G. Foubister. scr. 1; F. J. Casey, 30yds. '2; E. A. Cleaver. 'soyds, 3; S.- J. Baird. 100 yds, and E. D. Andrews, 140 yds, dead heat, 4. Time. 2m 6 4-SS. Won easily by 20yds., with Casey a_ length ahead of Cleaver. Second heat: K. Spragg, 170 yds, 1; C. Hansen, 160 yds, 2: J. Whitten, 30yds. 3; G. P. Clark, 95yds, 4. Time, lm 58 3-ss. Won by a wheel. Whitten being 50yds further back. Final: R. G. Foubister, ecr, 1; F. J. Casey. 30yds, 2: J. Whitten, 30yds, 3. E. A. Cleaver. 50yds, 4. Time, 2m 3 2-ss. Won by half a wheel. Whitten was two lengths back. The match races were the first of a eeries which will continue until the close of the season, when the rider gaining the moat points will bo acclaimed the winner. The sprints resulted as follows-.—First heat: H. R. Dwight, 1; F. J. Casey, 2; J. Whitten. 3. Won by half a length, -with Whitten a. similar distance behind Casey. Second heat: R. G. Foubister, 1; E. A. Cleaver, and E. Mullane, dead heat, 2. Won by three lengths. The two finalists, Dwight and Foubister, went off slowly, but on entering the back straight Foubister started his sprint. With his characteristic and powerful finish Dwight shot past Foubister to win by a length.
