HOLIDAY FOR CHILDREN.
PORT WAIKATO GAMP. PERIOD TO START TO-MORROW. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Wednesday. A party of 200 boys and girls will leave Hamilton by the steamer Manuwau at eight o'clock on Friday morning for Port Waikato, where tlicy will spend a fortnight's holiday as the guests of the Waikato Children's Camp League. The league has met with generous assistance from townspeople in carrying out its project, and, apart from liberal donations of money, large quantities of food and goods have , been contributed. Since the league was given an area of land at Port Waikato by Mr. Edward Spargo two years ago, over £ISOO has been spent in improving the property. The area, which comprises over 30 acres of bush-clad hills and level paddocks, has been fenced and planted in hedges. A cook-house, kitchen, four large dormitories and several small sleeping quarters for adults have been built in permanent material. Water has been laid on, and every convenience to ensure comfort and wholesome meals has been provided. The camp will be officially opened by the Minister of Health, Hon. A. J. Staliworthy, on January 17. A large gathering is expected to be present, for the occasion will mark the centenary of the foundation of the Waikato.
