WAIP'J SOCIETY'S JUBILEE.
PIPING AND DANCING EVENTS. KEEN ATHLETIC CONTESTS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI. Thursday. The Waipu Caledonian Society held its diamond jubilee Highland gathering and games in Caledonian Park to-day, in fino weather. A largo number of tho public attended, and tho gate takings wero easily a record. Tho piping and dancing events were held out of doors, and tho park presented a picturesque appearance. Competitors wero present from all parts of tho North Island, including Napier, Dannevirke, Palmerslon Nort'h. Hamilton and Auckland. Tho piping and dancing judges wero Messrs. Robert Clark, Dunedin, and W. Bolton, Morrinsville. In tho field events close contests resulted, and some excellent athletio performances delighted the largo gathering.
