OBITUARY.
MR, RICHARD ARTHUR, BARNES.
The death occurred suddenly at Kumeu on Saturday of Mr. Richard Arthur Barnes, aged 67 years, one of the oldest residents of the district. Mr. Barnes camo to New Zealand with his parents from Cornwall at tho age of three years, in the sailing ship, New Ship England, the voyage taking three months. The family settled at Kumeu, where Mr. Barnes had since been dairying. He was educated at the, Auckland Grammar School, being among the first pupils of the school. Mr. Barnes always took a very keen interest in local affairs and at the time of his death was a member of the Kumeu Public Ilall Society, Kumeu .Ratepayers' and Medical Associations, Agricultural and Pastoral Society and a member of tho local Public Library Committee. He is survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters.
MR. W. E. WOODWARD,
The death occurred in Melbourne last Saturday of Mr. W. E. Woodward, a former manager of the. Union Bank of Australia in Auckland. Mr. Woodward was born at Port Fairy, Victoria, whore his father was engaged in pastoral pursuits, and he was educated at Warrnambool and afterward in Ghristchurch. Mr. Woodward was first associated with the Union Bank in 1875 when ho entered its service as a junior in Ghristchurch. Tho following year ho was transferred to Auckland, where lie remained for 12 years, rising to the position of teller. Ho was promoted in succession to the management of the bank's branches in Collingwood, near Melbourne, and Hay, in New South Wales. In 1898 ho became manager in Auckland and held that position until his retirement 12 or 13 vears ago.
MRS. JANE SCOTT,
[ny TEIiEGRAFJI. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CAMBRIDGE, Tuesday.
Tho death has occurred of Mrs. Jane Scott, widow of the lato Mr. James Scott, farmer, of Ivaipaki, at, the ago of 83 years. Mrs. Scott came to Now Zealand with her parents in the ship Anno Wilson, in 1863. She was married at Mangore and after several years came to tho Cambridge district, where she had resided over since. She is survived by two sons and four daughters. There are 17 grandchildren.
