HOMESTEAD BURNED.
EARLY MORNING OUTBREAK. OCCUPANT'S HURRIED EXIT. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] BLENHEIM. Monday. The homestead of Mr. Thomas Walker, of Grassmere, was destroyed by fire at an early hour yesterday. The building consisted of 10 rooms, and was formerly a well-known accommodation house. Mr. Walker was in the house alone when the outbreak occurred.
Mr. .Walker was awakened about 2 a.m., and had to escape in his night attire. The flames made a clean sweep, and none of the contents of the house was saved.
The dwelling was insured for £7OO, and the contents for £4OO, in the Sun Office. There was a separate cover of £135 on a piano in the North British Office. Mr. Walker is a heavy loser, as many valuable possessions were destroyed, including ambergris worth £75.
