DEATH OF VICAR.
THE REV. C. B. W. SETON. RECENT COLLAPSE AT CHURCH. HEALTH TRIP TO ENGLAND. The death has occurred in England of the Rev. C. B. W. Seton, vicar of Otahuhu, who was on a health trip abroad. Mr. Soton left Auckland by the Rangitiki in September, following upon an illness brought about by overwork, and it was his intention to spend six months in England, later staying in Palestine with his brother, Mr. Justice Seton, who is political adviser to the Governor of Transjordania. When about to conduct a service at the Anglican Church, Panmure, on April 6 last, Mr. Seton collapsed in the vestry and was picked up in an unconscious condition. After receiving medical attention he was removed to a private hospital in Auckland, where he was for some time in a serious condition. His sudden illness was attributed to the strain of overwork. After his recovery, Mr. Seton was granted six months' leave of absence and prior to his departure for England was accorded an enthusiastic farewell by a large number of parishioners. Born in England some 40 years ago, Mr. Seton was educated for the ministry at St. John's College, Auckland, and was ordained as a deacon in 1914. The following year he was appointed curate at Holy Trinity Church, Devonport, and in 1916 was on the home missions staff of the Auckland diocese. In 1917 Mr. Seton left for France as a chaplain with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force and while on active service was awarded the Military Cross. After his return from the front Mr. Seton was appointed vicar at Raglan, a position which he occupied until his appointment to Otahuhu in 1925. Mr. Seton was unmarried and in addition to his brother in Palestine has another brother in the Rotorua district. His mother resides in England. "Ho was one of the most charming men one could meet," said Archdeacon G. Mac Murray last evening, in paying a tribute to Mr. Seton's work in the Auckland diocese. "His cheerfulness and tireless energy made him wonderfully popular in his parish and the news of his death will be received with sorrow not only by his parishioners but by the clergy throughout the Auckland diocese." A SAD COINCIDENCE. DEATH OF REV. R. HAY. (Received December 28. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 27. The death occurred of the Rev. Richard Hay, formerly of Brisbane, during a visit to London from Cheltenham to conduct the funeral of the Rev. C. B. W. Seton, ■*icar of Otahuhu, Auckland.
