INTRUDERS IN HOUSES.
SUMS OF MONEY STOLEN.
MAN SEEN IN BEDROOM.
Sums of money totalling about £lB were stolen by thieves who entered two accommodation houses at Devonport and Cheltenham early yesterday morning. At Cheltenham an intruder was surprised in a bedroom, but ho ran out of the house and made good his escape. Mr. George Sinclair, the proprietor of tho house at Cheltenham, was awakened shortly before four o'clock yesterday morning ami saw a man standing at the foot of the bed. Thinking it was one of his sons he called out to him. The man immediately turned and rushed from the room, followed by Mr. Sinclair. After passing through the front door ho closed it behind him, thus preventing close pursuit. The intruder jumped over a wall into Cheltenham Road and 110 further trace of him could bo found.
No money was stolen from Mr. Sinclair's room, but a guest in another room lost about £1 17s.
The' police were also notified yesterday of the theft of £l6 from a room in a private hotel at Dcvonport. The money was stolen from a room on the lower floor, which was reached from a verandah. No sound was heard during the night, but on rising one of the guests found that a wallet containing the money had been stolen from his coat pocket.
During the absence of the occupiers yesterday a house in Albany Road. Heme Bay, was entered and between £6 and £7 was stolen.
