FEMALE TEACHERS' PAY.
DISPUTE AT A MEETING. SEVERAL WOMEN WITHDRAW. Unusual scenes were witnessed at a meeting of the council of the Teacheis Federation in Sydney recently. Following a heated discussion on equal pay for equal work for women, a numher of women teachers as a protest withdrew from the meeting when the pro posal was defeated. • Tho discussion arose out of a motion that representatives of the conciliation committee should be instructed not to agree to any compromise with the Crown on the claims of women teachers at present before the Industrial Commission which did not provide for equal pay for equal work. Those who supported the motion charged officials with insincerity and with having forsaken the policy of the federation. Heated replies were made bv officers.
Tho president, Mr. McGuinncss, explained that, on the advice of Dr. Evatt, he had endeavoured to bring about a compromise. Supporters of the motion were challenged to submit the motion to the women teachers as a body. The motion was defeated by 26 votei to 12.
