THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE.
QUIET TONE CONTINUES
Business on (he Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday was confined to within a comparatively small compass. The market was quiet, and quotations showed little or no change on those of the previous day. The gilt-edged section drew quotations for a wide range of securities, but no business was put through. Six per cent. Australian Commonwealth bonds, due in 1937, were offered at £99 10s, but failed to draw a buying quotation.
Jn the banking group New Zealands changed hands at a fall of 3d on the market at the time of the previous Auckland sale, on Monday. Sellers at 50s lOd at (he closing call failed to attract buyers above 50s. Buyers came in for Unions at £8 18s, with sellers at £9 10s. The market for Now Zealand Insurances shares was slightly weaker with buyers at 40s, compared with 40s 6d the previous day. Sellers of Standards dropped Is to 50s without attracting buyers. In the loan and agency section Colds-brough-Moris were weaker, sellers dropping to 19s 4d, compared with 19s 9d 011 Tuesday; buyers dropped 3d during tho day to 18s 9d. Taupiri Coals lost Is on the market at the liino of tho last sale, a month ago, to sell at 225. Auckland Gas shares sold at the current price, and tho contributing issuo came into lino with the present market, dropping Id 011 tho last sale, three weeks ago, Lo change hands at 17s sd.
Breweries showed no movement. In the miscellaneous group sellers of Colonial Sugars dropped £1 to £32 10s without drawing buyers above £3O. British Tobaccos were also a little easier, with buyers at 28s 6d, compared with 29s 6d tho previous day. Buyers of Gear Meats moved up Is 6d to 295, sellers asking 34s 6d. Buyers of Taranaki Oils moved up another 2d, but no business resulted. Mount Lyells sold at 19s 6d.
