SECRETARY RESIGNS.

WORK OF MR. G;;L..STEWART.

SERVICES TO .EDUCATION.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —KRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON,. "Wednesday.

The secretary of the Wellington Education Board, Mr. G. L. Stewart, tendered his resignation to the board this morning, and it was accepted with great regret. The board decided to place on record its very high appreciation of Mr. Stewart's services to the board and to education generally throughout the Dominion.

In accepting the resignatidn, the board decided to grant to Mr. Stewart three months' leave of absence, which Mr. Forsyth, the chairman, said would hardly equal the periods which Mr. Stewart had spent in looking after the board's matters instead of taking leave which was due to him.

Mr. Stewart will have occupied tha position of secretary for 27 years when his resignation takes effect in April next. Ho was born in Forfarshire, Scotland, and educated at Dunedin and at Otago "University. Mr. F. S. Hylton, at present assistantsecretary to the board, was later in tha meeting appointed as successor to Mr. Stewart. Mr. Hylton has been for 2<J years in the service of the board.
