TAKANINI TRACK NEWS.

SARGON AND IN THE SHADE.

BOTH HORSES SLIGHTLY SORE.

Summer conditions arc now in force at Takanini and yesterday both the inner grass and plough tracks were freely used, the going boing firm and fast. The majority of Jamieson's team were allotted ueeful pace-work on tho plough, only a few being sent along fast. Sargon (Jones) and In the Shade (Stewart) did easy pacing for two circuits, when they increased the speed to gallop the last five furlongs in 1.4 3-5, both going freely at the end. These horses are in splendid condition, but each has been showing slight soreness. Sargon's trouble is apparently muscular and it wears off when ho is warmed up. In tho Shade's soreness is due to a corn in one of his fore hoofs and it is likely to yield to treatment. Trustee (Stewart) and the Chief Ruler— Peut—Eire filly finished practically on terms at the end of half a mile in 51 2-ss, a useful effort. Trustee is hitting out nicely in his work, which has so far not been strenuous. The Chief Ruler pony has improved considerably in appearance during recent weeks. She may bo given a race at one of the smaller fixtures after tho holidays. Lord Willonyx (Forsyth) and Catchom (Crowley) were together at tho ond of half a mile in 51 J-Ss. with the former on the outside going slightly the better at the close. C. Morse is now sending somo of his maiden charges along faster and Lord Willoynx is one who might pay his way at country fixtures. Catcheffi is not so forward as his mate and he is by no means a good-legged horse. Nevertheless, ho has shown enough speed in his early essays to warrant his trainer persevering with him. and the gelding by Illumination from The Ferry were given threequarter pace work. Tamarado has had no fast work since becoming larno a month or two ago, but she is standing up to solid pace work in a manner that encourages the hope that she will now stand a preparation. Tho Illumination gelding has recovered well from his operation, but at present he is backward in condition. Brazanna (Farrell), Amber Link (Crowley) and Exaggeration were in that order at the end of a three-furlongs sprint in 37 4-5s on the grass. Brazanna was slow to find her feet, but she ran up on the inside at the turn, and beat tho other pair decisively at the end. Her effort was a very satisfactory one, as sho has so far had only a few fast sprints. White Win as (Mcilroy) sprinted three furlongs in 39 2-ss. Sho carried a good weight and went well within herself, iho Limond mare is now carrying a solid appearance and promises to continue in the '"st.'aidcs (Mcllroy) and Bugle Call (Grice) were together throughout a tliree-furlongs spin in 38<4-sb. the best effort yet recorded by the two-year-old. From being a rather weak-looking youngster, Buglo Call is now developing rapidly, but on present appearances Iho season may bo well advanced before ho shows any form in public. Royal Artist (Walters) and High Comedy (Bagby) finished their work with a sprint up the straight, both youngsters doing their work with zest. It is apparent that their holiday has freshened them up nicely.

Rosshire (Walters) did easy pacing to brush home from tho threo furlongs ill 39 2-ss, being on tho bit at tho finish. After his showing in the Takapuna Plate thero is hope that tho big three-year-old will yet fulfil his enrly promise. Columba and the Pombal—Leta colt finished in front of Queen Papa in a sprint up the straight, both Columba and the Pombal colt showing good action. Columba returned from Sydney with a cold, which has lint yet quite left her. She displays no outward signs of it, but a slight cough remains. This, it is hoped, will soon vanish. Tho full-sister to Eaglet is a sweet filly, who will catch the eye of tho critics when she is produced in racing shape.
