WATER POLO.
MATCHES LAST EVENING.
Ponsonby defeated North Shore by 2 goals to 1, and Mount. Eden ran up a score of 4 to 1 against Waitemnta No. 2 in the third series of games in the Auckland Water Polo Board's competition at the Tepid Baths last evening.
The Ponsonby-Nort.h Shoro match was the moro interesting. There were Bome rapid exchanges in the opening stages and clever play, in which the Ponsonby backs and forwards combined, resulted in Fleet scoring. Assuming the offensivo early in the second spell. Ponsonby was not lons in adding to its score, Raper succeeding in putting in a good shot. Ponsonby continued to hold an advantage, but eventually North Shore managed to pieico the defence and Vaile netted. The game was fought at a lively pace until the cull of time, which saw the tscoro unaltered. Mr. S. Brooking was refereo. Some keen play was seen in the Mount Eden-Waitemata No. 3 contest, but the winners well deserved their victory. Tho first half ended with scores equal, de Loree having netted a goal for Mount Eden and Solomon for Waitemata. Mount Eden dominated tlio second half, Keane, Moore and de Loree adding points. Mr. L. Brighton refereed the game. In a second grade mulch Ponsonby defeated Herald by 5 goals to 0.
