WAIKATO COUNTY ROADS.
WORK ON NEW BRIDGES. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OU'N' CORRESPONDENT.] _;/ ■ HAMILTON. Tuesday. The engineer's report presented at, a meeting of the Waikato County Council to-day stated that owing to (he continued bad weather the contractors had been unable to commence Ihe bituminising of the Great South Road between Ohinewai and /Huntly. The remaining length of the road between Huntly and Ngaruawahia had been well maintained and was in good order. The HamiltonBotorua Road was in good order throughout. . Owing to the difficulty of securing a Biiitable fotindntion for tlip }ii>rs nf tlio new concrete bridge at Leask's, on the Hamiiton-Paeroa Road, progress had been clow, but a start would I>r made shortly with the beams and decking, continued the report. Work on the new Matahuru Bridge, iif the Huntly Riding, would be commenced early in the new year.
The \\ oodlands Swamp Amalgamation Committee wrote advising that a meeting to consider arrangements for .tho conference early next year between the parlies interested in amalgamation, would be held in Hamilton next Monday. It was decided that the chairman should represent the council.
