CHAMBER MUSIC.

PROGRESS OF SOCIETY. The Chamber Music Society has concluded its first year's operations with a measure of success which should undoubtedly encourage it to extend its work in the future. Financially, states the annual report, the past season was a satisfactory one, as the society concluded its efforts without any loss. More important, however, is the growth of interest in the society, and this augurs well for the 1931 season. Four concerts were presented this year, consisting of trios, quartettes and quintettes. Among the composers represented were Beethoven, Tschaikovsky, 'Dvorak, Villiers Stanford, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Yorke Bowcn and Alfred Hill. The society expresses a very laudable ambition to present next year some of the lesser known works sucli as Beethoven's octette, Schubert's and Brahms' quintettes, and others which include parts for .flute, French horn or clarinet. Tho following officers were elected: — President, Mr. R. Fenton; vice-presi-dents, Professors J. C. Sperrin-Johnson, W. E. Thomas, and C. W. Egerlon; secretary, Mrs. R. Fenton. Tho number of the committee was increased to 16 members.
