HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST
FAIR TO CLOUDY. . The following weather forecast for 48 hours from 7 a.m. to-day wan supplied by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:— Mainly fair, to fine weather is indicated in most districts during the week-end, although conditions will be unsettled at times, witli scattered showers in coastal areas. Warm day temperatures and cold nights. Variable and moderatd breezes, southerly to south-westerlies prevailing. Seas moderate. Local outlook: Fair to cloudy, with a tendency for an occasional shower. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 30.051n. Midnight, Thursday 30.15 in. Temperatures in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum, 68deg.; Minimum, SSrieg. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—An anti-cyclone is still located over the Tasman Sea, but is less intense. Pressure has fallen still further at the Chatham Islands and a fresh and extensive depression is now moving on to Tasmania. Indications are for south-westerly to westerly winds, moderate to fresh generally,' but strong at times about Foveuux Strait, later becoming more westerly. There will be a considerable swell south of Castlopoint and rough seas in Foveaux Strait, otherwise smooth to moderate seas. Moderate south-westerly winds, later veering to west and north-west in the eastern Tasman Sea, with smooth to moderate seas. The weather will be cloudy and hazy mainly, with scattered showers developing soon on the west coast of the South Island and about Foveaux Strait. Temporatures mild.
