ARTICLES TAKEN FROM SHOP. ACCUSED GIVEN A CHANCE. On a charge of stealing a number of small articles from a Queen Street shop Stephen Roy Kcogh, aged 33 (Mr. McLiver), appeared in the Police Court yesterday for sentence. The offence was committed on Friday evening. "His landlord speaks very highly of accused, who is regarded as a decent, hardworking man," said counsel. "If he had been sober at the time ho would not have taken these things." The Magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt (to accused): Take out a prohibition order and I will adjourn the case for three months. STOLE BOOTS FROM SHOP. s PROBATION FOR YOUTH. "He has never been in trouble before, but has been brougHt up in bad surroundings," said Detective-Sergeant, Doyle in the Police Court yesterday, when Ernest Frederick Bacon, aged 17, chair-maker, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a pair of cartyas boots valued at 10s 6d. Constable Board said accused admitted taking the boots from a shop entrance but gave a false address. Bacon was admitted to probation for 32 months by the magistrate, Mr. T. K. Hunt. An application for the suppression of his name was refused.
