LONG TRIP WITH CANOE.
AUCKLAND TO WANGANUI. YOUNG MAN'S EXPERIENCE. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WANGANUI, Monday. An adventurous journey from Auckland to Wanganui with a canoe has been completed by a young man, Mr. Stanley Rose, who arrived at Wanganui to-day. Most of the distance was covered in tho canoe, making use of rivers and lakes, but he had to pull his craft, which was mounte'd on wheels, over the intervening land. Mr. Rose left Auckland 10 weeks ago and. paddled down the Waitemata Harbour to the Tamaki River, thence to the Manukau Harbour, going direct to Waiuku. A walk of a mile and ahalf took him to the Otau Channel, which leads into the Waikato River. Proceeding to Cambridge, he covered 87 miles on foot, pulling his canoe behind him until he arrived at Taupo. Ha paddled for 50 miles along the lake to Tokaanu Ho traversed the Tongariio River for a few miles and made his way across National Park to Tnumarunui. He commenced the journey down the Wanganui River a week ago. . During tho 10 weeks of his travel* be has beon under cover only five nights.
