ENGINEER'S SERVICES.
MOUNT EDEN BOROUGH. _ j PAYMENT ON COMMISSION BASIS. The position of tlx 1 borough engineer, wns discussed at a meeting of the Mount Eden Borough Council last evening. The Mayor, Mr. E. H. i'ottor, presided. Mr. J. M. Melville moved that the salary of tho engineer he reduced by onehalf; tho engineer to ho given permission for privnlo practice to the extent of onehalf of his time and that if ho declined to accept the proposal to be at onco given 1110 necessary notice of termination ot Ins engagement. Mr. Melville also moved that the services of the turncock, waterworks foreman and drainage and sanitary inspectors be reorganised or rationed so as to reduce tho cost of this work by half. The motions were discussed by the council in committee. It was decided to retain tho services of the engineer on a commission basis, the. engineer to have tho right of private practice and tho position lo bo reviewed three months after tho commencement, of the new year. The Works Committee reported that in view of*tho decreased expenditure anticipated 011 drainage the engineers position was discussed with him and that lie agreed to accept payment after January 1 on a commission basis, with the right of private practice; and to furnish any reports required oil the work of tho borough without further chnrgo*
