OHINEMURI GOLDFIELD.

» ENCOURAGING PROSPECTS."

BORING TO BE UNDERTAKEN

[BY telegraph.—own correspondent.] WAIHI, Friday.

Tn response to a request to the Minister of Mines from the Waihi Prospecting and Mining Association, which was formed some time ago to endeavour to locate fresh finds of sufficient importance in the Ohinemuri field. Dr. J. Henderson, director of geological survey, recently paid a visit of inspection to the district. In the course of a report subsequently furnisher] to the Mines Department, Dr. Henderson refers as follows to his investigations of a belt of country between Owliaroa and Waitekauri, where the association holds a licence to prospect a block of 500 acres:—

"Over an area of many square chains fine gold may be panned from the borings, and assays show that much of the rock contains gold to the value of several shillings a ton. The lodes of Owharoa are of the stock work type and here, as in a few other parts of the Hauraki district, the mineralising solutions seem to have impregnated the adjacent country. The prospects are encouraging and the extent and value of the deposit should bft ascertained."

The boring referred to by the director of geological survey was conducted on a property adjoining the claim taken up by the association, and from which, with the consent of the owner, further samples have been taken on behalf of the association and assayed. The results wero submitted to the provisional directors at a meeting last evening, and were considered sufficiently encouraging to warrant preliminary investigation of tho claim by boring. This work will be put in hand at an early date.
