LONG TRIP TO HOSPITAL.
LAUNCH AND MOTOR JOURNEY ACCIDENT AT MANUKAU HEADS. A long trip to hospital was made by Mr. John Turner, aged 72, of Orua Bay,' Manukau Heads, who slipped while walkdown a bank shortly after five o'clock last evening, and received a fracture of the left leg. Mr. Turner's plight was noticed within a short time by a party of workmen and ho was taken on an improvised stretcher to tho settlement at Orua Bay. A message was sent to Onehunga requesting the despatch of a launch, and although it made a fast trip the preparations for its journey had occupied considerable time and it was after 11 o'clock when tho injured man was put ashore at Onehunga. From there, the St. John Ambulance lost no time in motoring him to tho Auckland Hospital, where he was admitted before midnight. JOURNEY OF AMBULANCE. ABOUT 100 MILES COVERED. A fast run to Waimarama, south of Tuakau, was made by the St. John Ambulance yesterday morning to bring an injured man to Auckland. The ambulance left Auckland at 8.30 and arrived back shortly before mid-day after travelling about 100 miles. The injured man was Mr. J. O'l'oole, an employee of the Public Works Department, who had received internal injuries through being struck by the handle of a tip truck. It was found that his injuries were not serious and he was able to go to his home, which is in May's Road, Onehunga.
