BREVITY OF A LETTER.
THAMES BOROUGH VALUATION COUNCIL NOT SATISFIED. [IJY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] THAMES. Thursday. Evidently llio Valuer-General is practising economy in words if not in stationery, said the Mayor, Mr. W. Bongard, at a meeting of tlio Thames Borough Council last evening, when the town clerk, Mr. A. Chapman, read a letter from the Valuation Department couched in the following terms:—"l have to acknowledge receipt of your letter." The Mayor: This is really no answer to our letter. No answer at all. We wrote asking lor a new valuation and this is all wo get in reply. I think we should go further than this. Mr. Donovan: It is pretty brief. I think we should approach the Minister It was decided to instruct llio town clerk to write to the Valuer-General in an endeavour to obtain a more definite reply.
