GOLD JACKET'S PREPARATION., Tho fine weather experienced on the Inst two mornings saw the dirt track at Epsom in good order and trainers with horses engaged at the Waikato meeting on October 11 seized tho opportunity to send them along in useful work. Others who will not bo required to race the Auckland fixture were also allotted sound tasks. J. Shaw put the hopples on Arachne on. Wednesday and sent her over 12 furlongs. After pacing a mile freely and steadily Arachno ran homo tho remainder of tho journey in 1.7. Warplano and Stoney wero associated over a similar distance, with a good bru£h over tho final circuit. Stoney paced nicely, appreciating tho firm fdoting.

Roland had the Worthy Bond—Florria Bingen filly as a companion over a mile. They covered both halves at ati even clip, but were not asked to' put up any time. Golden Huia noon lost her assistant, Torn Pepper, who broke up badly, after tho start of a milo and a-half essay. The Gold Bell mare trotted steadily, recording a shade worse than 2.30 for a mile.

Unhoppled, The Abbey ran over several circuits at a steady gait. W. Clifton's charge is in nice condition, but there are no races for hiri in the province at present. Tho Abbey is not entered for the New Zealand Cup, but will figure in other events at the Addington November carnival. Mignonne Impresses, Explosion made no errors in a two-mile work-out, relishing the solid going. After a race at Hamilton as a trotter, W. Clifton will try the Nelson Bingen gelding again at the pacing business Windshield, Gold Jacket, Mignonnp and Margaret Wallace stepped away from the two-mile post, the last named going out as pacemaker Margaret Wallace was still in front at the end of a mile and a-half,-reached in 3.46, ' but began to tire, and Windshield turned into tho straight slightly in advance of Mignonne and Gold Jacket. Tho trio passed the line together, tho full journey occupying 4.44. Mignomie's display was the most impressive. Gold Jacket is now ready to undergo his New Zealand Cup preparation. Great Vanity, after traversing a circuit at a useful clip, livened up to come home the last four furlongs in 1.11. G. Webb's novice pacer is on the improve. Worthy Nor, the three-year-old filly by Worthy Bond from tho Auckland Cup winner, Norah Crcina driven by A. McGarry, was given a two-mile task. She showed a fairly even gait over each half, to finish up tho journey in 5.1. Two miles was Hohora s allotment, and without being .naked to Bpced up at any part of the journey ho registered 5.4. J. O'Kane is endeavouring to get the Gold. Bell gelding to go moro solidly in. his work. Belle Axworthy's Mission.

A. J. Julian was early astir yesterday anddespatched Bello Axworthy and Rolfe Auidii- ♦ bon on a. 12-furlong jaunt. The mare paced nicely throughout, but her companion became unbalanced and was soon in the rear. Belle Axworthy, whose next mission ia the big two-inilo event at Hamilton, recorded a 2.20 mile gait.

Worthy Chief and Gold Treasure were » associated over a mile and a-half.. The Derby candidate began smartly and led his companion for a, mile, reached in 2.32. The pace was not increased over the. final stretch, where Gold Treasure was pulling <■ hard.

Pavlova and Nelson Tasker Bet off over two miles, the mare going out well clear. Over the last half-milo both pacers livened up to reach the post in 1.9, the full distance being left behind in 6.0. It was a useful task for Pavlova, who ia now on the improve.

W. Willetts had the' gear on Nathaniel, who paced resolutely over three laps, without "being asked to record anything special over any stage of tho journey. The Our Thorpe gelding is rounding into good ehape for racing. Oliver Thorpe, who is still backward, and will not be required to race for some time yet, paced free-legged over several circuits, while Brutus, another of Willetts* charges, was given strong jogging work. Dan Direct Free-legged. Dan Direct, unhoppled, and Haroto worked together over 12 furlongs, a mile traversed, the English-bred pacer drew right away from Ilia associate. However, ho badly on the corner, spoiling what promised to be an interesting halfmile from a time point of view. Haroto was affected by tho solid nature of the track. * Great Fame, covering a couple of circuits steadily, stepped a half in 1.18 and, going on for another four furlongs, lowered this by four seconds. The grey son of, Nelson Fame impressed by the resolute and generous way in which he went about his work.' Maid of the Mountains, who is always a good track worker, had" too much spued at the end of J2 furlongs for Anseliye. Tho trotting mare did not display her usual balance, and left her feet two or three times during the work-out. Kewpie's Triumph, a three-year-old son of The. Triumph and Ivev/pie in J. Gee's stable, attracted attention by his handsome appearance. The youngster, who is a Derby candidate, showed good action in pacing over a few laps at a useful clip. Mrs. Collins has been a visitor to the Epsom track this week with her Worthy Bond pacer Whakahihi, and, driven by L. McMahon, the big gelding accomplished a neat task over several circnits. Mrs. Collins has dono Whakahihi well since ho raced at tho Auckland fixture, and on a big course ho should repay her for her efforts. Direct Action had tho cinders to himself yesterday morning, and ho trotted over a long journey with his customary steadiness. F. ■ Gilchrist has tho Don Pronto gelding in good heart for future engagements.

Promising Novices. W. Nightingale's maiden squaro hotter, by Peter Moko from Peggy O'Neill (a granddaughter of Ribbonwood), showed promise in a work-out oyer a milo and a-hnlf. The maro pnt in a couple of skips, but broke well and did not lose much ground. Miss Manning it tlio naino claimed for her. A. J. Julian's "Worthy Bond—Miss Eolfe three-year-old has furnished into a fine type of pacer, and ho displayed good promise in a useful task over two circuits. This youngster, wlio will probably raco as Worthy Cause, also claims an engagement in the Great Northern Derby - Gaza was hoppled up and watches were primed when the saddle merchant appeared on tlio track. They were not required, as the Our Thorpe gelding was only jogged steadily over a number of circuits. L. McMahon's maiden pacer by Tlio Triumph pleased by the even manner in which she stepped over two laps. The maro is"showing an aptitudes for the business that augurs well for success lator in the season. Parrish Belle, who looks nono tho worse for her outing in tho heavy going at the recent Auckland meeting, jogged steadily on tho sand track. When eha gets firmer footing C. G. Leo's good little trotter wji make amends for past defeats.
