HEAVY TRAFFIC INSPECTION. WHAWHARUA ROAD METALLING. [lit TELEGRAPH. —OWN COTtTtESrONIIENT.] OTOROHANG A, Thursday. The Waiknto County clerk notified ilie Otorohanga, County Council tlint- tho cost of two heavy traffic inspectors would be £I2OO. spread over the six local bodies concerned, Otorohanga County's sliaro at 16 per cent, being £192. The chairman of the Otorohanga Council, Mr. F. Potts, said the six local bodies had agreed to give two inspectors a trial, and tho council confirmed this, Mr. A. L. Maguiro being appointed by the Main Highways Board and Mr. W. E. Nicholson by the counties, provided Mr. Dyson, another applicant, w,-m agreeable to' Mr. Nicholson's appointnient. A request for the installation of a telephone at tho stock inspector's residence in To Kuiti bad been refused on the grounds of economy by the Minister of Agriculture, and councillors generally thought that this was false economy, as a telephone message often saved a long journey. A deputation of Whawharua settlers waited on tho council in connection with the metalling of one and a-half miles of road, and it was decided to proceed with tho application to the Local Government Loans Board for sanction to the raising of a loan. Strong protests were made against formation work being gone on with by the Public Works Department in connection with Adam's Road, on tho ground that only ono settler, who wanted no fauces or road, could possibly benefit, and the cost would bo £3OOO or £"1000. Other county roads could be improved to better advantage. It was reported that Mr. \V. J. Broadfoot, M.P., had arranged to upon the now Wharepuhunga Bridge at an early date, and that tho Minister of Education, tho Hon. 11. At more, would also open a new school in that district.
