SOLAR EXPEDITION.
ADDITION TO THE PARTY. The party of six Now Zealand scientists who aro leaving Auckland by tho Niagara on Tuesday on routo to Niuafou Island, in the Pacific, to observe tho total celipso of tho sun on October 22 will bo joined unofficially by Mr. P. L. Overton, of North Canterbury. Mr. Overton, who is a young surveyor and a member of (lie Astronomical Society, will pay his own expenses, but will participate in tho concessions granted to tho expedition. OITY COUNCIL ASSISTANCE. DONATION TO EXPEDITION. A request for a donation toward (hp cost of sending tho New Zealand eclipse expedition to Niuafou Island was roceived by tho City Council last evening. On the motion of (ho Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, £lO 10s was voted.
