AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIP. HACKETT IN THE FINAL. The first semi-final of the Auckland provincial amateur billiard championship for the Billiards. Limited, Shield wti9 played on Saturday niyht. W. E. Hackett defeating H. Randiup. The game attracted a large number of spectators Both players started confidently. Hackett having slightly the better of tho plav and recording n, nicely compiled break of 47. Randrup took the lead soon after by scoring more freaucntly and reached tho hundred mark with a lead of oyer 30. lie gained applause by making some welljudged all-round shots.

Hackett, compiled a run of 42, breakiwr down through a mis-cue. This gave him n slight lead. llis opponent, however. re* prnined the lead by adding a break of 38. Prom a double-baulk left by liis opponent Randrup scored a cushion cannon and rim up a 31 break, making the score '2Ol to 151 in his favour. Hackett evened the scoro by making a break of 32, but Bnndrup continued to scorg freely and retaliated with a run of 37. The score at this stage was 2(i9 to 231 in Rnndrup's favour. Eandrup increased his lend considerably soon after by making breaks of 21 and 21). he then having an advantage of 90 points. Hacked sained ground by making a red ball break of 41 nnd cot within twenty Doints of his opponent's score. A further effort o£ 43 gained him the lead, but only by a few points. A break of 23 once more gave Randrnp the lead, who held an advantage of teu points just after the 400 mark was passed. A break of 26 by Hackett brought forth one of 35 by his opponent. Hackett at his next visit made a break of 30 and won a creat game by running to points with an unfinished break of 20. The final score was:—"W. E. Hackett. 500:
