CONFIDENCE TRICK.
SEARCH FOR A " FRIEND." SEQUEL TO A SWIM. 'A Welsh-Australian has asked a Sydney detective to endeavour to locate a friend of his—a recent arrival from Wales. J lie meeting of the Welshmen, which ripened into friendship, was accidental, and tho manner of their parting was just as strange.
3he Welsh-Australian recently ordered dinner in a city restaurant, and, while lie was waiting to ho served, another man sat opposite him, and, with a Welsh accent that was unmistakable, ordered a frugal repast. " I seo you're from Wales," said tho Welsh-Australian.
" Yes, and proud of it, too," was tho reply. Thereupon names were exchanged, and, when it was discovered that they camo from the same town, reminiscences were related. Tho newcomer spoke feelingly of tho old, familiar winding main street and mentioned the names of many families whom his companion remembered.
Tho conversation continued until the end of the meal, whereupon the Welshman remarked that he was experiencing difficulty in finding employment. Tho Welsh-Australian invited him to stay at his home, an offer that was accepted with profuso thanks. After that they wero almost inseparable, .and a few days ago they went swimming in tho Domain Baths. After a short while tho Welshman, saying ho found tho water cold, emerged. Later tho Welsh-Australian returned to his dressing cubicle, and found that his friend had disappeared. No tiaco could bo found of him, or of £42 that tha Welsh-Australian had had ia his coal pocket.
