AMY JOHNSON'S GIFT.
SYDNEY DANCE HALL VISIT. OVER £IOO FOR AERO CLUB. The Aero Club of New South Wales has received a donation of £lO3 15s from Miss Amy Johnson, in respect of her appearance at, the Palais Royal dance hall in Sydney Mr. Weslcott, who directed the arrangements for Miss Johnson's visit in Sydney, states that Miss Johnson had given directly about £7OO for charitable or other public purposes, apart from thousands of pounds collected indirectly during her visit.
Il is proposed to invest tlio amount in the cluli's debenture issue for the develop, meiit of Hargrav© Air Park, and to apply the income in providing an annual trophy, which will be known as the " Amy Johnson Trophy," for "The Oaks Handicap," ft race that is open only to women pilots, trained, bv a recognised aero club in Australia. The trophy will be competed for by women pilots at the club's pageant, which is to bo held at Hargravo Air Park on September 20. In a recent interview in England Miss Johnson stated that she visited tho darico hall because it was- on her programme. She knew of no payment, but when 'old that she was to have a fee, sho said that she dirl not want Iho money, but insisted that it should go to charity. " 1 should like to add," Miss Johnson said, that nowhere, throughout the Australian tour did I accept money for visits to theatres or for keeping any public or private engagements."
