DAFFODIL DAY.

EFFORT AT MANUREWA.

Mrs. J- A. Bradstreet officiated at tho opening of Manurewa's Daffodil Day, which was held in tho local Town Hall on Wednesday afternoon and evoning. Tho guest of honour was introduced by Mrs. C. Coxhead as president of tho local organisation. Airs, Bradstreot congratulated tho workers of tho Anglican, Presbyterian and Methodist churches on their combined efforts. Reference was also mado to tho individual efforts of tho secrotary, Mrs. It. Forbes, and the treasurer, Mrs. Middleton. Little Miss Helen Sexton presented tho speaker with a shower bouquot. An extensive* progrannno of competitions, danco numbers, "elocutionary and vocal items added to tho general interest at both afternoon and evening sessions. Contributing items were: Miss Nancy Martin, Miss Maisio Martin, Miss Doreen Saunders, Miss Shirley Mitchel and Misses Martin. Competitions wero won by tho following:—Ladies' nail driving, Miss Knight: candle lighting, Miss Jessie Harris and Mr. Ralph Bennett; men's hattrimming, Mr. R. Coxhead. A baby show resulted in a majority of votes being returned for the Presbyterian baby (Wall), with tho Methodist baby (Craig) second and tho Anglican baby (Hughes) third.

The greater part of tho very satisfactory profit accruing from tho function was returned by tho various stalls, which were under the direction of the following ladies: —Produce, Mesdames H. W. Hood, Brown, Wood, Reeves: cakes, Mesdames W. T. Cox, Craig, S. Seymour, Miss Smith; sweets, Mesdames Aybng, Bennett. 0. Gallagher, F. Whyto, A. C. Sexton; flowers, Mesdames Finlayson, Freshney, Sheldon, Do Cartaret, Miss Finlayson; tea rooms, Mesdamos Robertson, T. Wood, Mac Donald, Lunton, sen., H. T/iipton, J. Whitton, Miss Fawcett.
