METHOD OF ELECTION.
TRANSPORT BOARD SYSTEM. CITY COUNCIL'S ATTITUDE. The view that no change was necessary or desirable in tho method laid down in tho Act for tho election of members of the Auckland Transport Hoard was expressed by Iho i"ity Council last evening. A motion to this effect, moved by tho deputy-mayor, Mr. A. J. Knfricau, was carried, after (lie defeat of an amendment seeking a free franchise over the whole area. This was moved by Mr. W. If. Muri'ay, who received tho support uf three other councillors, Messrs, Grey Campbell, T. Bloodworth and F. N. Bartram.
Mr. Entncan said (ho Act embodied the policy of the council, which had promoted it, and had been endorsed by a vote of the electors throughout tho area. Mr. Murray's amendment, advocating tho frco franchise throughout tho whole area, was seconded by Mr. Bloodworth. Tho dcpuly-mayor pointed out that, owing to tho ratio of valuations in the respective divisions of tho transport area, the city would be called on to meet twothirds of any loss which might be made. The delegates to the conference had acted properly in opposing any change, pending consideration of tho question by tho council.
