WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP.. VICTORY FOR MISS NUTHALL. (Received August 25. S.o p.m.) NEW YORK, August 24. In the final of the women's national tennis championship at Forest Hills today Miss Betty Nuthall (Britain) defeated Mrs. Harper, 6—l, 6—4. She thus won the title relinquished by Mrs* Helen Wills-Moody. . ■ K . The first set was a walk-over for Miss Nuthall. The spectators were treated to a spectacular rally by Mrs.. Harper in the second set, when, with a series of dashing and effective placements from tho forehand and much forcing of the English girl into errors, she ran up a 4—2 lead.

However, Mrs. Harper had already tired badly and Miss Nuthall calmly pulled out to 5—4. Although her opponent fought desperately to deuce in the last game several times, she could not withstand Miss Nuthall's hard strokes. Th» match lasted 36 minutes.

In tho final of the doubles Miss Nuthall and Miss Sarah Palfrey (Boston) defeated Mrs. Harper and Bliss Edith 3—6, 6—3, 7-5.
