NEW ZEALAND TEAM.
VISIT TO TORONTO. MATCHES FOR THE ROWERS. \ (Received August 24, 5.15 ft.ni.) TORONTO, August 23. With the Empire Games at Hamilton finished, packing for home has begun. The New Zealanders will, however, next week be at Toronto, since the oarsmen are entered for the rowing events at the Canadian National Exhibition. It is felt here that tho team was handicapped by the loss of H. Calder and R. O. Johnson, who were unable to bo at their best iu the Empire Games. The team will sail on tho Aorangi, ou September 22. The Australian selections for the Chicago Games are expected to include Hillhouse and Whyte. After the Ameri- . can events the team will leave next Saturday for Los Angeles, where they will spend three days prior to sailing on the Ventura on September 11. Bob Pearce, having accepted a challenge by William Miller, of Philadelphia, will defend tho Gold Challenge Cup, emblematic of the sculling supremacy of the world, in a race on tho SchuvkiU River, at I'hiladeplhia, some tinio in the next fortnight. Fred Bradley has also accepted an invitation.
