RETAIL FOOD PRICES. A GUIDE TO HOUSEWIVES. A reduction of 2d a pound in the prices for lamb is the outstanding change in the retail foodstuffs price list this week. Supplies of fish are now more plentiful, there being liberal stocks of schnapper. All grades of butter arc about 2d per lb. dearer. In the fruit section Queensland pines and Californian grapes are available. Tho values for the other classes of fruit remain unaltered. There are practically no variations in the prices for vegetables. Following are yesterday's prices:— MEAT. Beef.—Sirloin, 9}d per lb; rump steak. In the 12 months ended July 31 the value of Canada's imports was £229,606,491 and exports £203.155,548. In the corres- j ponding period of 1929 the favourable trado balance was £11,928,602.
