FINED FOR ASSAULT.
TAXI DRIVER STRUCK. For assaulting a taxi driver, Sydney Hull, aged 25, draper, was fined £2 by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in tho Police Court yesterday. Tlio accused, who did not appear in Court, was also convicted on a charge of being drtmlc in a public place and wan fined tlio amount of liis bail, £l. 'lhe taxi driver, S. 8. 1!. Mackie, said tho acCuscd came up to him in Sliortlnnd Street at about 2 a.m. on Sunday and asked to be taken to the Point C&ovalior llall. Before starting ho Inquired tho amount of tho fare and wlion told it was 3s ho became very abusive, saying ho would not pay morn than 2s 6d. Tho accused, who was drunk, struck witness on the face.
