PENSION ANOMALIES.
RETIRED PUBLIC SERVANTS. ASSOCIATION IN QUANDARY, [by telegkaph.—rr.ESS association. ] WELLINGTON. Wednesday. In the existing financial and political circumstances the Association of Siipeianimated Public Servants is in a quandaiy as to the wisest course to pursue to bring about a removal of anomalies in th« various schemes of superannuation. At the annual meeting of the association the president. Mr. G. Giiling-. Butcher, said representations were made to the. late Sir Joseph Ward that * Royal Commission be appointed to investigate and report upon anomalies that exist. A reply was given by Sir Joseph that some form of an inquiry would bfl held. This was generally regarded as satisfactory. However. l\efore the necessarv steps could be taken to appoint tha commission which the Prime Minister had in contemplation, lie was stricken down with illness and another quasi-depart-mental committee of inquiry was appointed. . "It must be admitted," said Mr.-Girling-Dutcher. "that so far the position is anything but satisfactory. It appear* certain tliat just at present we cannot expect questions which, however deeply.interesting to us as retired public seivants. are not of vital importance to the e.xistoncc of any Government to receive that amount of attention to which we consider they are entitled .As matters are it wouj appear not only futile, but probably dctumental to our interests if further immediate steps were taken to press upon » badly harassed Government our iust, aim legitimate claims." )
