UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE.
<sj r) —a recent correspondent stated that he thought single men and men without families should bo exempt from the benefits of unemployment insurance. Does that correspondent really think it would be a fair thing to make the above-men-tioned men pay their 30s per year and reap no benefit ? He said the single men and non-family . men should be able to save enough while in employment to tide them over such times as when they are unemployed Well, that is whero he has made a mistake. W T ith relief works at the present time a man is sent out into the country and has to bach or pay about 23s per week for board, while ho is paying house rent in town, and his wife has to live, and food cannot be got for nothing. What the writer of that letter says would he reasonable if & man were able to earn about £6 per week, but under the present conditions he is doing well if he makes £4 per week. Relief Work.
