SUPPLY OF POWER.
COLLIERIES' REQUIREMENTS
REARRANGEMENT OF PLANT.
GENERATORS AT HUNTLY.
[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] HAMILTON, Monday.
The Public Works Department has decidod to remove threo Babcock and Wilcox boilers connected with tho Grand Junction steam-driven electricity plant at Waihi and to erect them at Huntly. Referring to this decision to-day, Mr. T. MacLennan, district electrical engineer, said tho department had a 3000kw. generating plant at Waihi, but owing to limitations due to local conditions the plant could not bo operated at its full
capacity. It had been therefore decided to dismantle part of tho plant and sot it up in the Huntly Town Board's old powerstation. In this way the two plants could be run at full load, ono at Waihi and one at Huntly, and would thus help to relieve the position caused by the breakdown at Arapuni.
Tha matter was mentioned to Mr. T. Hinton, chairman of the Central Power Board, who said the proposed Huntly plant would enable his board to supply power to several collieries which roquired it. The board had agreed to supply the Wilton colliery with 500kw. and poles wero now being erected from Ngaruawahia to the mino in anticipation of the power being available. Application had been made to the board by the Glen Afton collieries for from 500 to 600kw. for uso in t f .e new MacDonald mine, and negotiations were proceeding with a view to providing the power required. Arrangements had also been .made by tho board to supply power for use in the carbonisation plant at Rotowaro.
It was expected that tho Waihi plant would be installed at Huntly next month and that it would be ready for uso at au early date
AUCKLAND BOARD'S WORK. TRIBUTE BY BOROUGH COUNCIL. Appreciation of the Auckland Power Board's efforts during the trouble at Arapuni was expressed by resolution at a meeting of tho Mount Eden Borough Council last evening. In moving the resolution Mr. W. H. Nagle said it was only fitting that-, as tho representatives of 20,000 citizens of Auckland, tho council should show its appreciation. In addition to meeting the situation the board had 'made adequate provision for the future and had allowed expansion to continue. " I do not think tho general public realises what was entailed," said Mr. G. L. Tavlor.
