MAINTAINING THE FLOW. TARIFF BOARD'S SUGGESTIONS. CANBERRA, August 9. The Tariff Board, in its annual report, says tho only liopo. of maintaining tho (low of Australia's exports is by a reduction of the general level of production costs. It says it is impossible to escape, tho conclusion that the costs in some industries could tie materially reduced if thero were greater cooperation between employers and employees in securing an increased output. Moreover, says tho board, the distribution of the costs was excessive in many instances. Rationalisation of industries by tho further merging of manufacturing interests is regarded as most essential. Tho board is convinced that Australia's secondary industries could be greatly expanded under the existing tariff conditions.
