C. G. PORTER RETIRES.

NOTED ALL BLACK CAPTAIN. LAST GAME FOR NEW ZEALAND. "HAPPY END TO MY CAREER." [UY TELEGRAPH. —OWN' CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON. Sunday. The noted Rugby player C. G. Porter, captain of the All Blacks in the four test matches against Britain, has announced his retirement from representative football. Speaking at the official dinner to the British team after the final test match yesterday, Porter said: "This was my last game for New Zealand. 1 have had a long career in llugby football, and this is a very happy end to my playing days." Porter has been an outstanding figure in New Zealand Rugby for many years. He is a brilliant wing-forward and a great general. Ho played a great game against Britain yesterday and scored two tries. He was captain of tho victorious All Black team which -toured Britain in 1924 and was recognised as ono of tho outstanding players of tho tour. His generalship was tho deciding factor in winning many matches. Since then he lies led the New Zealand team on numerous occasions. Porter is now 30 years of age.

RULINGS OF THE GAME. PROPOSED IMPERIAL BODY. POSITION OF DOMINIONS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —ATHLETIC REPORTER.] WELLINGTON. Sunday. With reference to the rulings of the game Mr. S. S. Dean, chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union management committee, said that Mr. James Baxter, manager of the British team, in his various speeches, had mado it quite clear that tho International Board was prepared to consider tho request mado by overseas Dominions for representation on an Imperial body yet to bo established. Tho conditions laid down were that tho various unions must first of all give their assurance that they would adopt tho rules and rulings of the Imperial body. This now placed the onus upon tho various unions affiliated to the New Zealand Union to fall in lino if such representation were desired. As far as he himself was concerned ho thought the opportunity should bo accepted. It was his intention to recommend to delegates at the next annual meeting of tho New Zealand Union that they should accept the position and so obtain a seat on the representative body to bo formed. He thought it would bo agreed by all that tho games played during tho present tour had produced firstclass exhibitions of Rugby, and also proved that the gaino was fast enough for the players. Providing the recommendation was adopted by tho delegates to the New Zealand Union it meant that international rules would have general application throughout the Dominion. He felt confident, judging on the expressions passed at the last annual meeting of delegates and discussions with members of various unions throughout the Dominion, the recommendation would be . carried.

"The present tour of the British team should prove of great benefit to Rugby throughout New Zealand," said Mr. Dean. "They had proved a very popular combination, ami their sporting style of play had won them well-deserved merit from tho Dominion's Rugby enthusiasts." Every facility had been given to the British team to seo as much of the Dominion as possiblo. To tho Maori race particularly he would like to express his appreciation of what they bad done in the way of entertaining the visitors. Members of the British team highly appreciated the kind interest taken in them by the Maoris.

A review of the tour of the British team through New Zealand will be made at a later date.
