LEAGUE FOOTBALLERS.
NEW ZEALANDERS' TOUR. BRISBANE TEAM DEFEATED. (Received July 30, S. 1•> p.m.) BRISBANE. July 30. Tho New Zealand Rugby League footballers to-day defeated Brisbane by 19 points to 17. The New Zealand team was:— Backs.—Gregory, Abbott, Brisbane, Seagar, Amos, Dodds, Wotherill. Forwards: Calder, Stephenson, Timms, Griffiths, Dufty, Eckhoff. Tho visitors showed tho best form of their Queensland tour and treated the small crowd of spectators to a fine exhibition of free, open football in glorious weather. The backs and forwards combined splendidly in delightful passing. Tho homo side also played with dash, and the interest was well sustained throughout. Toward the end, with the scores close, tho excitement was intense, and only stubborn defence by the New Zealandcrs and their deadly tackling checked tho determined bursts of the keen Brisbar.o players. Ono try by Seagar was the result of a fine movement started by Eckhoff in the home twenty-five. The ball flashed across the field to Calder, and Abbott, Stephenson, Wotherill, Duffy and Brisbano participated before tho wing* dashed across. The New Zealander, U. Brisbane, played a brilliant game throughout, showing fine anticipation in attack and defending well. Wotherili suffered an injury to an ankle and had to leave the field in the second half. The play was never one.-sided, but the Now Zealanders seemed to have the ability always to get out of tight corners, and they played with tho utmost confidenco. The scorers for New Zealand were:— Brisbane, two tries; Abbott, Seagar and Timms, one each; Eckhoff, ono goal and a penalty goal.
