NEW MOUNTAIN HUT.
PROPOSAL FOR EGMONT. APPROVAL OF COMMITTEE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN" CORRESPONDENT.] NEW PLYMOUTH. Tuesday. A scheme to erect a hut near Humphries' Castle, on Mount Egmont, at 5400 ft., was placed before the North Committee of the Egmont National Park Board last evening, by a deputation from the Taranaki Alpine Club. The proposal received the approval of the committee, and a sub-committeo was appointed to go into details of the matter with the Alpine Club. The three main arguments advanced in favour of tho erection of the hut were that it would prove an additional attraction at the mountain, especially as regards tho northern side, that it would servo as a base from which climbers could start, and that it would be a ready lcfugo in tho event of mishap. It was proposed to build a hut 20ft. by 10ft. Bin. Two main rooms would lio provided and a common room, which could bo used bv climbers resting or staying long enough for lunch. The other portion would be kept locked and in charge of a ranger. It would contain bunks, blankets and other necessities for a night's stay.
