CROSSING COLLISION.
EXPRESS STRIKES MOTOR DRIVER SEVERELY INJURED TRAVELLER FROM AUCKLAND. [BV TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT ] PUTAIiURU, Tuesday. A crossing collision occurred near Tirau to-day, when tho Rotorua crashed into a motor-ear driven by J|,. A. E. Cookson, of Auckland. Mr. CooL, son, who is a single man and a traveller for L. D. Nathan and Company, Limited suffered injuries io the head, fracture of the ribs, and shock. lli s condition tonight was fairly serious. Tbc .accident occurred at, about 2 'ls p.m., when Mr. Cookson was chiving f row Putaruru, and happened at what is co: ,. sidered to be a very dangerous t crossing, less than a quarter of a mils from the centre of the Tirau township. The car was extensively damaged. The express stopped <snd tie injured man was attended by Dr. J. IX fs. I)uncan, of Rotorua, who was a passenger on the tiain. Ho was then taken on the express to Rotorua and admitted to t, private hospital. It is stated tjS a result of repeated representations on the part of the Putaruru Chamber of Commerce, the Railway Department has decided to erect a warning bell at this crossing.
