TRIBUTE TO MEMORY.
LAUREL WREATH FROM MOTHER

To-day was tho birthday of the late Flying-Officer Frank C. Ewen, formerly of the Royal Australian Air Force, who was killed on tho day the Federal Parliament was inaugurated at Canberra by the Duke of York. A laurel wreath received from his mother, of Auckland, was placed on his grave by Mr. A. E. Green, Minister of Defence, in the presence of the congregation of the church in tho burial ground of which ho was interred. Mr. Green paid a tribute to the brave airman.
Flying-Officer Ewen, of Point Cook, was taking part in tho final stages of the review at tho close of the ceremony of the opening of tho Federal Parliament at Canberra on May 9, 1927. Ho was flying an aeroplane beneath 15 other machines when it, crashed, biting its way 2ft. into tho ground. Tho aeroplane was splintered and burst into flames. Rescuers managed to release the pilot, but he died next day. Ho was 27 years of age and was tho eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. F. 0. Ewen, of Balmoral Road, Mount Eden. He had been trained as a flier in New Zealand and 13 months before his death had left to join the Royal Australian Air Force.
