RETURN OF MENJOU.

POPULAR FRENCH ACTOR

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's roster of stars lias been augmented by the signing of Adolphe Menjou, to a long term contract. Menjon has just completed an engagement with the 1' roncb motion picture industry, proving an outstanding hit in "llis Childish Father." Hitherto Menjou has been seen in productions almost exclusive of the brilliant, ultra-sophisticated type. It is intended, however, to exploit the star s varied individual qualities and bring out a versatility that will bo seen to match his acting ability. The public will therefore bo seeing a new Adolpo Menjou. According to plans already formulated, ho will make pictures in English, French and Spanish lor Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, tho themes of which for the most part will have a Continental flavour.

French stories are specially being sought for tho star, since he is admittedly unsurpassed in the types of characterisation they offer. His admirers will recall that it was " A Woman of Paris," a picture with a French background that first brought Menjou to stardom. Adolphe Menjou was born in Pittsburgh, of French parents, and was educated at Culver Military Academy, in Indiana, and at Cornell University. At tho latter institution ho studied to bo a mechanical engineer, completed his course, received his degree, but, after leaving college, ho has never done any work along that line. It was when attending Cornell that Menjou was first attracted to theatrical work. Ho was a member of tho theatrical society and also wrote ono of tho most successful college plays. Immediately after graduation, ho went on tho stage and appeared for two years in theatrical and motion picture work. When war broke out, Menjou enlisted as a private in tho American forces, with the ambulance corps.
