HOUSE-PROUD WOMEN.

SCRUMBLED YELLOW WALLS.

When I went to tea with Mrs. Michael Hornby at her house in Balfour Place, into which she is now quite settled, I found the talk all of furnishings and decorations, remarks a London writer. Particularly did tho nurseries, where the daughter of tho house, eight-months-old Susan, spends much of her time, come in for admiration. They have powder blue coloured Dutch furniture painted all over with little pictures. Tho most delightful room T thought was Mrs. Hornby's boudoir. Its scrambled yellow walls are decorated with canvas panels painted with trees and birds in shades of yellow and brown, and there is something specially picturesque about these panels, which are all tho same height but different widths. Bowls of blue hydrangeas and yellow tulips look gay and homely, and there is a glass door which opens on to a pleasant roof garden. 1 liked her idea, 100, of a pickled mahogany staircase. It seemed to have more lifo about it than the pickled oak and pirio which are so much tho vnguo. having a delicate pinky tinge.
