The first half was even, but Takapuna had the better of matters in the second and with more accurate place-kicking would have won comfortably.

Give and take play marked the. opening of the game, strong tackling by both sides breaking up many attacking movements. Toward the end of the spell Eade placed Takapuna iu a promising position with a good kick, and then, in a passing rush, was forced out at the corner. A fice kick allowed the visitors to save.

Early in the second spell Takapuna opened the scoring. Securing from a scrum. Foster rut in quick by and passed to Eade, who dashed over at the coiner. His kick at goal missed narrowly. Ryder wis playing an excellent, game for Rotorua, and after one fine run, in which his filial pass was blocked, kicked through from inidfteld and followed up, to beat Emerv and score between the. posts. He kicked his own goal. The visitors continued to have slightly the better of exchanges, and a fine passing rush by the Rotorua backs saw Ryder come round outside his wing to take a pass and score a fine try. The kick failed, and the halftime scores were:—Rotorua High School, o; Takapuna Grammar School, 5. Takapuna played with more spirit at the opening of the second half, but met with solid tackling Eade had unsuccessful shots at goal from two penalties, and for the greater part of the spell Rotorua was penned iu its twenty-five. The. scores were unaltered when the teams changed round for the final quarter. Takapuna continued to attack and from a scrum Foster cut in to send Warren over near 'lie posts. Foster's kick made the scores equal. The visitors quickly retaliated and from a scrum on the line a Rotorua forward scored, the kick failing. Foster then missed at goal from a penalty against the Rotorua forwards for offside, but Sidford, following up fast, scored under the posts. Foster missed an easy kick and with it an opportunity to place his side in the lead. Good defensive work by Haywood and Emery, coupled with over-eagerness on the part of Takapuna, kept the iiome team in check as it made frantic efforts for victory. ' The game ended when after a great run Eado was well tackled by Haywood. The final scores were:—Takapuna Grammar School, 11 ; Rotorua High School, 11.
