"INGENIOUS EXCUSE."

PACKING OF CABBAGES

"I put the big cabbages in at the top to prevent the little ones- from falling out," a Chinese, Fong Sang, wrote in a letter read in the Police Court yesterday in answer to a charge of fraudulent packing. He stated he had been in the country for 25 years and had had no convictions entered against him. "A most ingenious excuse," commented the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt. A fins of £2, with 10s costs, was imposed.

Fines of £3, with 12s costs, were imposed on George Gee and Ah Foo for similar offences.
