THE MAORI WAR MEMORIAL.

Sir, —The fine monument si - lie top of Wakefield Street, commemorative of the fallen heroes of our Maori wars, is the result of strenuous and patient efforts of the, Victoria League. On its completion, it was with just pride handed over to t.he City Council. A lew months ago, the bronze palm branch was broken. After being repaired again, now it has been bent; the base of 'he obelisk 'is scribbled over. As a fit tribute, of reverent memory, a landmark in the early history of our Dominion, a beautiful work of art, and as a,n ornament to our city, it deserves better preservation. This at the small cost of a surrounding iron fence couid be secured and appreciation of the gift shown. Kate Keesing.
