NEW WHAU BRIDGE.
COST OF ERECTION. HELENS VILLE BOARD'S VIEW. [by telegraph.—own correspondent. ] HELENS VILLE, Thursday. At a meeting of the Helensville Town Board a letter was received from tho New Lynn Borough Council asking tho board (o agree to (he allotment of 1.5 per cent, of the cost of erecting tho new Whau Bridge. Tho board's representative to the commission, Mr. Lowe, said the original notice of (ho meeting gave , tho time as 2.50 p.m., but on his arrival he found that the commission had sat at 10 a.m. and that (he preliminary work had been completed and the meeting finished It was the board's intention to protest against tho proposed levy of 1.5 per cent. Ninety per cent, of the traffic purporting to come to Helensville did not do so, and the board would probably agree to contribute 0.5 per cent, of tho cost. It was decided that a letter be sent 10 the Governor-General and the local bodies concerned, pointing out the ~ircumstances and statiiiß tho board's grounds of objection.
