LONDON WOOL SALES.
REVIEW OF THE SERIES. MARKET TONF IMPROVED. STRONG, CONFIDENT BIDDING. LONDON, July 23. At the London wool snips to-dav 7622 bales were offered, including 1595 from New Zealand, and about 3885 were sold. The New Zealand greasy halfbred clip Mount Paul mafic top price, 12d, average ll^d; the crossbred clip Ngaio, 10£ d and 9id.
The total catalogue included 104,469 bales. Tho Home trade took 31,000 bales, the Continent 50.500, the United States 1000 and 71.500 bales were held over, of which 56.000 were not offered.
The quantity of Australian wool sold was 37.000 bales, of New Zealand 29,000 bales.
The tone of the market improved as the sales progressed. Strong and confident bidding marked the latter half and the withdrawals were less than was ex-
pected. Merinos and greasy combings were strongly competed for throughout and the finest closed slightly above tho M.-.y closing rates. Good average improved throughout and closed a.t a parity with May prices. Faulty carbonising sorts were unchanged.
From the opening, crossbreds met with a strong demand and closed slightly above the opening Fine medium grades were about par and seoureds unchanged. Slipes, which opened at a severe decline, generally improved. The position at the close was about 5 per cent, below May rates. Lambs, best parcels, were unchanged. Inferior short carbonising sorts were from 5 to 7j per cent, below May prices. New Zealand greasy ranged from 9d to 12^d; finest halfbred lambs, to 14d.
Dalgety and Company, Ltd., lias received the following cablegram from its London house, dated July 23:—The wool sales closed active, with good general competition. Continent was the principal operator. The Home trade was rather more active than recently. As compared with closing rates of the last series greasy Merino are £d to Id lower; scoured Merino, Id to lower; greasy halfbred, £d to Id lower; greasy crossbred, fine, $d to Id lower; greasy crossbred, medium and coarse, $(! lower; scoured halfbred, Id lower; scoured crossbred, fine, ljd to 2d lower; slipe, ljd to 2d lower; blanket sorts, slipe, -gd to Id lower; lambs, 2d lower. We offered 104,882 bales. The Continent has bought 50,500 bales; Home trade, 31,000 bales; America, 1000 bales; carried forward, 71,500 bales, of which 56.000 bales not offered. Quotations Merino, good ta super, 13d to to 12|d; halfbred (561b. to 581b.), good to super, 12jd to 14c!; low to medium, 9id to 112 d 5 halfbred (501b. to 561b.), good to super, lli>d to 12jd; low to medium, to lid; fine crossbred (48lb. to 501b.), good to super, lid to 12d; low to medium, 3d to 10|d; fine crossbred (461b. to 481b.), good to super, 10jd to lljd; low to medium, B|d to 10id; crossbred (441b. to 461b), good to super, 10 jd to lljd; low to medium, 8?d to 10id; crossbred (401b. to 441b.), good to super, 101 d to lid; low to medium. Bjd to lOd; coarse crossbred (361b. to 401b.), good to super. lOd to 10|d; medium to good, 83d to 9jd. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its Loncion office, dated July 23:—The wool sales have closed firm for all descriptions. Quotations : Merino, super, 13d to t 14d; ordinary, lid to 12d : inferior, 9d to lOd; halfbred, to 12^d; crossbred, fine, 10J,d to lid; medium, 9jd to 10^d; coarse, to 9jd.
